Fields: Add/Edit Reserve Target

Add/Edit Reserve Search Target lets you add a new Reserve search target or change the settings for an existing Reserve search target. The reserve search target lets you specify the name and description of the target and the source desk of the materials.

When you create a Reserve Target, Portfolio creates a Detail Display that matches the Reserve target. The Detail Display includes the basic fields (such as Title and Author) but does not include fields specifically for Academic Reserves (such as, Course Name, Course ID, and Instructor). If you want these fields to appear in the Detail Display for Reserve items, you must add them to the Detail Display for the Reserve Target. For more information, see Adding or editing a detail display.

When you delete the Reserve Target, Portfolio deletes the Detail Display for that target.

Federated Configuration > Choose a Reserve source > Search Targets > Edit Target

Target Name

Displays the name of the search target that you are editing.

Note: If you are adding a search target, this information does not display.

Server

Displays the name of the search source for which you are adding or editing a search target.

Name

Specifies the system name of the search target (up to 80 characters). This name is used to identify the search target on the Search Targets page and on any other pages in the Admin console that display the search target name.

For this field, you can also specify an alternate name for a specific language. Choose the language from the drop-down list of supported languages, then enter the localized name in the field.

Note: If your web browser is configured to use a display language that is not supported by Portfolio and you have chosen to display the Admin console in a language other than the default language (en_US), the language that displays in the drop-down list of supported languages defaults to US English.

If a localized name already exists for a specific language, the software displays that language name differently in the drop-down list. When you enter a localized name for a specific language, the language name appears with a “++” suffix. If you clear the localized name for a specific language, the software displays the language name without the different formatting.

Important: Any changes that you make to the localized name are not saved until you click OK.

Description

Specifies a text description of this search target (up to 255 characters). This description is displayed on the Search Targets page.

Desk

Specifies which desk (or all desks) to use as the source of the academic reserves. In the Symphony ILS, the administrator can set up desks as categories for academic reserve items. These desks can be used in Portfolio to limit which items are included in the target.
